Instructor in-training (IT)
The Collingwood Sailing Academy is proud to offer an Instructor in Training (IIT) program, designed for sailors who have successfully completed at least CANSail 2. and hold a valid Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC). This program is an excellent opportunity for young sailors to transition from learning to leading, fostering both sailing proficiency and leadership skills.
As an IIT, participants will gain hands-on experience in teaching and managing sailing classes under the guidance of our experienced instructors. They will learn about lesson planning, safety management, and effective communication, all while enhancing their own sailing techniques. This program is not only a stepping stone towards becoming a certified sailing instructor, but also an avenue to develop invaluable life skills such as responsibility, teamwork, and problem-solving.
Participants will be actively involved in both on-water and off-water activities, assisting with rigging, de-rigging, and maintenance of boats, as well as engaging with students during lessons. The IIT program is more than just training; it's an opportunity to be part of a community, make lasting friendships, and inspire the next generation of sailors.
Upon completion of the program, IITs will have a deeper understanding of sailing dynamics, teaching methodologies, and can use the program to complete community service hours while helping.
